Pictorialism and Modernism

When Joseph Niepce achieved the first photographic image with camera obscura in 1814 , he never dreamt about the effect it would have on the future. Though the concept of a pinhole camera belongs to Mo-Ti (470 BC), and the greats like Aristotle understood the optical principle for a pinhole camera, it wasn’t till Niepce exposed an image on hours to record it, did people realise the importance of it.

Was there Art ?

Last week , when we were discussing about art and photography in early 19th century, I remember the discussion we had about how photography as a modern art , evolved and reflected in the presence of other art forms like painting and sculpturing .

Though in the art circles , we slowly seem to understand the power of understanding a process , the digitalization of this art forms like photography is transforming these art to pseudo art for general public. As we get busier by the day , we no longer have time to understand an art form or process.

I remember leslie talking about did we really kill the film ? And the new found pleasure I get by watching works of Nadar to our Connie Begg going back to tintypes . Continue reading…

The poison of photography

It’s been 202 days since I logged into my blog. Lot of things have changed since then (Worldcup,Graduation,Indian Scams being popular)  . One important thing being a shift in interest .A hobby soon to be a profession , a thought to be an art ,and a 1000d to 1d.Yeah, finally I’m gonna study photography as an art instead of an experiment . Last two years were quite unexpected to me as well as my folks at home . Excitingly accepting the challenges ahead , here are couple of thoughts/answers , I decided to blog down lot of thoughts non linearly .

BTW,

If you are a hobby photography or a random reader who have no idea of making it into a professional business , you can skip the rest  safely :) Continue reading…

Girls ?

‘Why I don’t really understand girls ?’

I don’t mean to disrespect feminine gender in anyway, but I failed to find an answer to that question. Over the years , I met lot of women from variety of  backgrounds and of different age groups. I want to skip couple of age groups ( <14 and > 26 ) . Now what I want to question myself is what happens to the girls when they reach the teens.

Sarcasm at the best

Maybe like Cooper , I really don’t much understand Sarcasm , especially if a girl is involved. I frankly don’t understand the inner meanings in their talk and subtle fluctuations in their emotions. I am not calling it a drama, cause it isn’t something which can be enacted. I somehow fail to understand the behavioral essence which usually get’s added to every thing they articulate.

Couple of days back, I was talking about this post to one of my co-passenger on my way to Vizag. When I expressed about the complexity of understanding girls, she simply told me to think like them.

I didn’t stop here and asked her how it is possible. When I don’t understand them ,how can I think like them. She came up with a real weird answer. ‘Act like them’.

I thought It’s better I stop asking anyone questions and really bother about understanding women. BTW here is an interesting video of a ‘very needed’ device in understanding girls. Hope you enjoy

{ FOSS, Bangalore }

Last year FOSS was one of the most important things that happened in my life. I was never exposed to people with whom I share similar interests. And keeping the technical things behind, I happened to meet this interesting photographer Kalyan Varma . Though I couldn’t talk to him so much last time , we kept in touch on twitter.

FOSS 2010 wasn’t as great as 09 maybe because atul wasn’t on the team. I was actually looking forward to meet Kalyan this time again. Was disappointed that he was in Srilanka when FOSS was starting. But he actually turned up for FOSS. :)

the lost 6 months

It’s almost six months since I last blogged. #2010 was really hectic and I don’t see it ending on a proper note either. The exams continued to haunt me for months and finally when I was done with them, GRE and CO , comes up.

On top of it, I am having a  really bad time with people and relations. Photography was something which I got to cheer up for . There is hope for a better year.
